Leo
Johnson
Jan 31, 1960 — Apr 1, 2022
Leo Johnson was born on January 31st, 1960, to Irene Johnson and Bobby Williams at St. Mary's Hospital in Brooklyn, New York. Leo was the eldest of his siblings and made sure everyone knew that he was the oldest.
Leo loved his Grandma, affectionately called Mama and fondly recalled his childhood days at Mama's house. Leo was formally educated in the NYC Public School system and graduated from George Wingate High School. Shortly after finishing HS, he met and married Crystal Harrison and from their union came Jeanine, Jaquetta, Jermaine and Jacquelynn. They raised their children together in Delaware, where he was employed at the Christiana Memorial Hospital. Leo lived in Delaware with his family until the early 90's, when he returned to his hometown of Brooklyn, NY.
Forever the life of the party, Leo could be found wherever there was a good time. He enjoyed good music and would kick his leg up and sway side to side to his favorites like Babyface and Luther Vandross. There was no limit to his selflessness, he would do whatever you asked of him, for family events he would always be the one toting the groceries from the grocery store, or heading out to get the ice, you could count on Leo.
Leo loved his family and did not consider it robbery to give of himself to help in any way he could. He returned to live with his sister Vicki in the early 2000's to help her raise her children, in return he not only got to see Vicki and Marsha's children Aleschia, Anthony and Terell through childhood into adulthood but he also got to sow into the lives of their children Sofia, Kevin, Kayla and Isabela, whom he lovingly referred to as "them kids". Even through his sickness, he would get up early in the morning with his cane to go get them kids breakfast from the corner store, "them kids got to eat, don't they?" He loved in his own special way and to know him was to love him no matter how ridiculous some of his antics were.
Despite the countless illnesses that plagued the last decade of Leo's life, he never complained, he would always say "I'm alright!". When he began to lose mobility, you could be sure he would call and give you his 2 cents and then some and he always began with letting you know "hey, it's me ( your Father, your Brother, your Uncle, Leo ). We will miss his humor and canny sayings for life's toughest lessons.
Leo always bragged to Vicki "my Father has mansions, Sis if he didn't he wouldn't say it was so baby!" and on April 1st when God called him home from Weill Cornell Medical Center, we know that he saw his Father's promise was true as he entered into his special room in his Father's mansion.
Leo joins a host of family and friends that have gone home before us and we know that he rejoiced as he joined his Mama, Mother, baby brother Arnold and sister Toni. He leaves to cherish his memory here on earth, his father, Bobby, his children Jeanine, Jaquetta, Jermaine and Jacquelynn, grandchildren Mehki, Yorel, Malik, Myere, Jayda and Mecca. Five sisters, Victoria, Darlene, Marsha (Ty), Michelle and Robin and brothers Jeffrey and Eric (Emma), his last living uncle, Donald, best friend Benjamin, a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
In memory of Leo, we encourage each of you to live and love without limits, because he believed life was about taking risks and rolling the dice. Up until his last day, he did everything he could to be here with us and we praise God that he is now free!
Lovingly Submitted,
